Who is RAD?
RAD Children's Furniture is a collaborative effort with one goal in mind: Help parents, schools, day-care centers and caretakers provide a safe environment for children to wholly express themselves. To a child, it really is not "play," but an enthusiastic learning process which must be respected as such, that fosters motor development, builds self-confidence, and encourages problem-solving, creativity and focus. Through the furniture and equipment we build, we hope to contribute to a world where mentally and physically healthy people can realize their full potential.
In 2008, Radomir started RAD Children’s Furniture at a time when he was a relationship coach and consultant leading workshops in Communication, Teamwork and Leadership, and his wife Antoinette was a RIE® facilitator. After making most of the furniture in their house, he was looking for another creative woodworking outlet when the parents from Antoinette’s RIE® classes started asking him to make furniture and climbing structures for their children. That was the beginning of RAD.
John has always been a DIY’er and so with the birth of his first child in 2016, his focus shifted to projects made for her. Soon after finding RIE and making his first Pikler Triangle, he met Radomir by mere chance. Excited by the opportunity to offer his woodworking skills to other young families and help empower future generations, John moved on from a career in the entertainment industry to join RAD full-time in 2018.
We make every item with the utmost care in our home-based woodworking studio in Los Angeles, California. In the interest of your child and our legacy to their generation we only use environmentally friendly materials.
All the furniture is hand-made of either 100% Birch EuroPly or Bamboo, bonded safely using a No Added Urea Formaldehyde (NAUF) resin and is FSC Certified and CARB 2 compliant. We put in the extra time to round over and sand smooth every edge for young fingers to stay safe. All surfaces are finished with an environmentally safe, non-toxic sealer. Some parts, such as dowels and table legs, are made of solid wood.
We believe that if you provide children with the proper environment for full self-directed expression, they will develop the necessary skills for leading a fulfilling and capable life.
We listen and follow the advice of caregivers and parents who are committed to the principles of RIE®, Pikler, Reggio, Montessori, and Waldorf, so we are always endeavoring to come up with new products, whilst at the same time constantly improving on existing designs.
