The RAD Magda Stool is a simple, intentional seating option inspired by Magda Gerber, founder of RIE. Designed for toddlers and preschoolers, this backless wooden stool supports freedom of movement while providing a stable, comfortable place to sit for meals, work, and play.

Handmade in our shop with RAD’s signature attention to detail and quality of materials, the Magda Stool pairs seamlessly with RAD Toddler Height Tables and RAD Preschool Height Tables. Its backless design allows children to move easily on and off the stool, supporting independence, body awareness, and natural posture. Beyond table use, many children also incorporate the stool into open ended play.

🪑 Choosing the Right Stool Height

The Magda Stool is available in two heights. The most reliable way to choose the correct size is to measure from the back of your child’s knee to the floor. That measurement should be close to the seat height you select. There is some flexibility, and since children grow quickly, it is often helpful to choose a size they can grow into.

What age is the Magda Stool for?

The Magda Stool comes in two sizes — the 6.5" Toddler Height and the 11" Preschool Height. These stools are generally suited for children 12 months to about 5 years, depending on each child’s individual height and stage of development.

Do these stools require assembly?

No, our Magda Stools come fully assembled and ready to use.

When can I expect my order to arrive?

Shipping estimates are available on each product page. These indicate when the item will be shipped from our woodshop in Los Angeles. Domestic orders are shipped via UPS Ground, and transit may take up to 5-7 business days depending on your location. Please note that our team does not operate on weekends and federal holidays. Orders placed on these days will be shipped on the next business day.

Is assembly easy? Tools? How do I assemble?

Our furniture requires minimal assembly, needing only an Allen key, which we provide along with online instructions. If your order includes over 20 screws, we'll also include hex drill bits to make assembly quicker. An electric drill could be useful but isn't necessary. You can find all our assembly instructions here.

How should I clean for my RAD furniture?

To clean your furniture, use a non-toxic mixture of vinegar and warm water. Spray the surface and immediately wipe it dry with a clean cloth. Never soak or immerse wooden furniture in water as it can cause the wood to swell and deform.

Can I use my furniture outside?

You can use your furniture outdoors but don't leave it outside for longer than necessary, as it's not designed to withstand extended exposure to outdoor elements. After use, wipe down the surface with a dry cloth. Leaving your furniture outside may void your warranty.

What is your policy on returns and exchanges?

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for unused products in their original packaging. If you receive a damaged or defective item, contact our support team within 7 days of delivery for an exchange or replacement. Please note, customized or assembled items are non-returnable.

Very sturdy and helps with my child’s independence

The height and weight are perfect for little ones learning to get into a chair by themselves. My son has cerebral palsy, so he’s still working on motor skills. I love that the stool helps to strengthen his core while preparing him to get onto it independently, something he cannot do with a regular infant chair because he has to be walking due to the back of the chair.

Great 1st birthday present

This is a big hit in our house. It was a present for my 1 year old, but my 3 year old uses it just as much - mostly to gain access to things in the house (light switches, snacks, etc.) It works perfectly at a children's table that we cut down for 6" chairs, but if we had a normal height table for kids, it would probably be too short.
